If you happened to watch the excellent Let Down on Netflix, you’ll know that motherhood is having a moment. I was inspired to write a piece about the reality of parenting because, as the Let Down so wonderfully celebrated, it is not always Instagram-perfect and is more often about putting the phone in the fridge and forgetting your own birthday.

These champion mums came forward to make my idea a reality and provided warm, witty, real anecdotes about life raising kids. Catch Rachel’s account of makeup on her walls and sick in her hair, and other motherhood greats, in Best this week!

Here’s the lovely Kitten on yesterday’s This Morning, live from L.A at the unearthly hour of 3am! There’s an unfortunate time delay but Kitten deals with it like the pro that she is and shows us around her spectacular apartment. We organised this interview for Kitten after her story featured in Best magazine and there’s a few more interviews in the pipeline too. She’s such fun to work with, her character is every bit as pink as her apartment!

You can follow Kitten on Instagram here.

It’s me! And my chums! Here I am in Woman magazine writing about five very important friends and how their friendships have helped build me into who I am.

I love writing about my friends so this was a lovely experience, reflecting on friendships that go back decades (and one that goes back just a matter of months!) and what these little legends mean to me.

Huge thanks to my wonderful sister Tam, my friends Mike, Iszy, Emma and Mila, for allowing me to share our friendships with the world. Out now in Woman Magazine.

I couldn’t reasonably hope for others to allow me to write about them if I wasn’t happy to write about myself! Luckily I love writing about myself…For Valentine’s Day this year, I wrote a piece for Best magazine about my love of rom coms and how I came to realise that true life is nothing like the movies. Working with neurologist Dr Nour, author of the super new book True Love, I looked at how most Hollywood fairytales stop at stage two of the four stages of love, so it’s futile to compare their ‘happily ever afters’ to the reality of our actual lives. But in reaching stage four – true love – I have discovered a more authentic, interesting, inspiring and real love. Yay! Thanks hubby!

You can catch us in Best now and buy Dr Nour’s book here. Happy Valentine’s Day!

ZeldaGrazia (Large)While I’d never be brave or bold enough to lapdance myself, it was incredibly enlightening and interesting to work on this story. Kristine kept a diary throughout her time as a stripper (while studying for a degree at the same time) and her observations flipped between amusing and heartbreaking.

But with mounting debt, more students are turning to strip clubs as a means to get through university. As Kristine explains, it does no favours for your self-esteem but is hard to give up because the money is easy and plentiful.

Out in this week’s Grazia. If you’d like to share your secret way of avoiding debt, please get in touch today.

Thank you!

williskimmindfulmebest-largeIt’s me! Here I am in Best magazine having a go at mindfulness. Results varied, depending how well I was remembering that I was supposed to be mindful… but I can report that I have actually become a much more mindful person on the whole in the weeks since I wrote this feature. I now eat slowly and think about each mouthful – begone days of wolfing down my meal! I take the time to enjoy my day because really, what’s the rush?

I really enjoyed 100 Mindfulness Meditations by Neil Seligman, who served as my guide through this journey. It’s a great introduction to mindfulness and allows you to have a little fun with the concept. Available on Amazon here!

It’s me! Sometimes I do like to tell chapters of my own life too… and here I am in Bella sharing the not at all embarrassing story of the office Christmas party snog that led to a marriage… Nine years later and I can report that our office Christmas party kiss that turned into a relationship that turned into a marriage is going very well indeed. Hurrah for booze and Dutch courage!

We’re in full on Christmas mode at Phoenix Towers at the mo, so if you have a Christmassy story we’d love to hear it! Message me today and we’ll see what we can do.

WILLISpipBest (Large)My incredible sister Pip and I are having a bit of a moment… who’d have thought after 34 years as sisters and a decade of me writing about other people, now would be our time to shine! Here we are in Best Magazine. Pipsy is taking all this fame in her stride of course. When people tell her they’ve seen her in a magazine, her go-to response seems to be: ‘Did it make you cry? It usually makes people cry.’

Well she’s not wrong – we have been told a few tears have been shed. But how lucky we are to have this opportunity to share our bond with the world, to paint a picture of sibling relationships both as youngsters and now we’re getting on a bit…

Well where does the time go? A new week, a new raft of fascinating stories that make me proud to be a writer.

I’ve been writing about some amazing kids this week. One little girl certainly gets the bravery award, for she has a condition which has led to 70 broken bones already, and she’s only five. But she’s an absolute champ who loves nothing more than digging for worms in her garden and grilling her mother about the gravitational pull of the universe. She hasn’t got time to feel sorry for herself as she is too busy figuring out the world, and that’s something we could all learn from.

Also inspiring me to appreciate life this week are the three stories in my ‘you saved my life’ feature – three women who are saying a public thank you to the people who saved their lives. The world is full of wonderful people. And I get to write about them!

As always I’d love to hear your story, so please get in touch today!
